At the time of independence, the country's situation was not good socially and economically. We had nothing to do except to hope for something good and to do our best to improve our conditions. We were so new that we didn't have any good political history and experience of ruling the country wholly. Whereas geographically our country was so rich that we have almost all the forms of geographical features that a continent must possess and was greener in those days as our nation's main occupation was farming and this has become one of the reasons for calling India, a subcontinent.
The majority of the people in our country were not literate or educated that they easily got caught by social evils like superstitious acts and other that we already know which doesn't at all do good to them or their family, but still they follow it for no reason. Governing a country, holding elections, taking the census and many things that a new country need to do had been difficult to execute. To conduct elections in an easy manner officers had to stick up the representative's photo or their party symbol on the ballot box instead of their name and this is being followed till this day as a custom. In those days not everyone was interested in knowing the actual truth and would follow everything that their dearest leader says, this could have been affected us politically as it might bring out a single-party majority and eventually may fall out from the path of democracy. India still exists as a people ruling nation and a hub of opportunities mainly because of many Leaders and Patriots, they dreamed and worked hard for the nation to make their country what they wanted it to be. India is a result of their determination and India is now able to play a pivotal role in global affairs just because of them. They always wished that our country must be governed by the best principles and be so colourful with primaeval Indian culture.
In the early times of Bharath, people were so good to each other, their hearts were always filled with love for their fellow person. It hasn't been the same since the British left India. British stood successful in implementing divide and policy which coloured most of the eyes with hatred. People always cursed, fought with each other in the name of caste, religion, creed, gender and many. Uniting such aerial and social fragments and make everyone accept one set of rules was a herculean task for new leaders in those days, despite all this they stood successful in uniting us.
India was so weak economically too. British after squeezing away all the nation's strength and riches to the last drop had made the country poor. The treasure box had no equivalent paise at the time of the formation of the nation. It has taken almost 5-6 decades to recover(we have not recovered fully until now too) and stand on our own feet. One of the brilliant policies to recover from this was the 5-year plan. Every consecutive five years were focused on developing each sector of the economy. The government had to invest a lot in education, power, water, other essential needs and technology to make their country compete on par with other nations. This created a burden on the government to repay its huge amount of loans which were used for the welfare of the nation. Besides this many of the government officials were also involved in bribe scams as they weren't getting enough salary which led to the lowering of the nation's fame. Corruption was at its peak. It is said that the government had to give a tonne of gold as repayment of loans. Again we have to thank our leaders who took appropriate decisions at the correct time and saving us from falling into debt and shattering the country into fragments. At that time our country had always been so polarised that it could easily break into pieces.
India is not just a nation, it's an emotion. I have told this everywhere and every time that IT IS THE RESULT OF CENTURIES LONG FIGHT BY OUR BRAVE FREEDOM FIGHTERS. Suppose our great grandfathers who died fighting, were alive at the time of independence, how happy they would have been!!... We can't imagine that! India is especially known for its patriotism. People here are so loyal to their nation and their hearts are always filled with love for their nation and will always be ready to sacrifice anything for their country. This is what I, you have learnt from our great grandfathers. Although being a developing country, it is performing so well in every sector and making profits. I wish that our love for our country must never decrease. As Indian citizens, we must shoulder all our responsibilities, we must work for its welfare and bring name and fame to our country. JAI HIND!!
