Arjuna was about to give up the war with Kauravas, as he was feeling very sad that he might be killing his men, to be precise his family in the war. Krishna told Arjuna not to let the impurities fill him up as it doesn't suit a person who has all the knowledge of life. "You are a Kshatriya and your duty is to fight, kill the enemies or die! Giving up is not good for a fierce fighter like you. Look! it is a must for everyone to die and become a child again. Here the body dies but not the soul." Lord Krishna was trying to explain to him that death and birth are very natural. One mustn't lament for death nor living.

He also said," The non-permanent appearance and disappearance of happiness and distress are like seasons (winter, summer,...etc). They arise from one's sense perception. So one must learn to tolerate them without getting disturbed and if he does it then he'll certainly be eligible for liberation. Do your duty, and killing now is not a sin as you are doing it for the Supreme God, to establish supreme justice again. Fight for the sake of fighting, without expecting a loss, gain, victory or defeat. Perform your duty and abandon all the attachment to success or failures. Such an evenness of mind is called yoga and practising this makes a man perfect!"

Let's you know your life's value, life's purpose, how to lead a human life, how to be a perfect man, how to reach the Supreme God. It makes you realise of things you've done in your past/you are doing now/you are going to do. It's not what I've said now, no one can make you know the book's importance without telling you know what's inside it. You cannot understand it by these few lines or the extract I took. You read then you'll understand the importance of it, in your life and I would suggest that you read it under the guidance of some elder who read it and knows the core meaning, or guru.
